Chapter Slovenia

Similarly to many other Rotarians around the world, we as members of the Slovenian Rotary have come to the conclusion that in addition to rotary activities we are also linked through a number of other common interests. Among one of the first active fellowships in Slovenia were golf players, but soon we realised that there were also many among us who loved motorcycles.

The initiative to organise a meeting of all those keen on motorcycle touring was launched by Jože Ban, President 2005/06 of the Domžale Rotary Club in August 2005. Sixteen Slovenian Rotarians joined us.

The first meeting was held on 1 October 2005 – a carefully planned date as our aim was to combine our first meeting with the National Old-timer Championship in Portorož, Slovenia, which was organised by our Rotary friend Peter Verbič. One of the Rotary fellows, Janez Božič, competed in that race and has so far won an enviable number of trophies.

Regretfully, only four Rotary members attended the meeting and two motorcyclist friends, one of whom was a woman. Season 2006/07 will definitely be better.

As several new clubs had been established in Slovenia recently, I am convinced that the number of members in our Chapter will gradually increase.

This year, at least two meetings are planned and I will be more than pleased to report on their success.

We will also warmly appreciate any information from other Rotary motorcyclists who wish to pay a visit to Slovenia – a country of unrivalled beautiful landscapes and hospitality.
