International Meeting in Odder, Denmark 2007

As agreed in the international assembly for European chapters last summer in Köpinge, Sweden, IFMR Norden has now has fulfilled its intentions, that they should make an international meeting every year in the future.

The first one has already taken place in Danish town ODDER, the most “middle in Denmark” town.

Participants we rolling in the yard of our Hotel, The ODDER PARK HOTEL, during the Thursday the 14. June. Motorcycles, registered in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Denmark and Sweden were filling up the closed area we had to our bikes. VERY soon old friends were hugging, shaking hands and laughing, glad to meet old friends from former rides all over Europe. As a special event 5 of the participants had did “the south Africa friendship ride” back in 1999. Speak about friendship and fellowship!

The Rotary club of ODDER were invited to join us in a very nice planned grill party in the garden. Unfortunately the rain made it a little difficult, but everyone had a lot of good Danish food to enjoy till late in the evening.

Friday morning were instructions given, how to ride, where to stop and so on, and off we went in a long fine row, riding through the fantastic landscape of eastern Jutland, to Silkeborg lakes, river Gudenå, making a long stay in the old town of Århus( 2. town in Denmark) After a superb lunch and guided tour we went on to see two very interesting museums, the STENO-museum.

The Friday evening was another highlight with many speeches praising the organisation team, Arne and Hans. A highlight of all speaks was, when the Dutch participant just said: the best of this meeting is the fellowship. This was exactly was all also meant. Many were also praising, that we not were more than som 45-50 participants. Due to this we could get a good dialog, talking to many new persons, we had not met before.

The organizers had seen the report for tomorrows weather, so they just asked all of us, if it was ok to charter a bus for the Saturday ride. The rain should fall in some 35 litres per square meter, so everyone agreed!

Saturday was the a dry tour to the very fantastic church of KNEBEL in the MOLS MOUNTAINS. This church was 1996 vandalized of a person, and all effect around Jesus were damaged and burnt. A competition among Danish artist was made, and the result was fantastic, quite new architecture in this very old building….

From the bus took all of us to fregatten JYLLAND, the last warship Denmark had in battle, this was 1864 against the Austrian fleet at Helgoland in the north see.

Fantastic guides told us in a very interesting way, how everything worked on this huge ship.

After a fine buffet, it was time to go home and rest a little before the gala dinner. One more wonderful evening, enjoying our fantastic fellowship.

As a past world president, it was a special joy for me to see, that the fellowship still is growing, that people are enjoying it.

Two things were very new:

1. ALL communication, instructions were only in one language: English.

2. ALL participant made great efforts to always involve the other friends in conversation, so the Danes were talking together in English. This was a big step forward !!

See you again, Jörgen Otzen, world president 2000-2006
